Horseware Amigo Amigo Vamoose Evolution
- How to fit a Horse Rug
Bringing together our innovative and super light disc front closure with the latest in Vamoose insect control technology. RUG SIZE: 5’6 – 7’0 (115cm -160cm) In our development of the new Evolution Fly Sheet in Aqua/Orange, we carried out extensive research to support our use of this colour combination. Most insects have what are known as ‘compound eyes’, which restrict their ability to see certain colours. In fact, research has shown that most inspects aren’t sensitive to many shades of yellow, orange and red. Most insects can, however, see Ultraviolent lights very clearly. UV pigments in flowers, as opposed to vibrant colours, are what attract insects. You may notice that flies are attracted to certain colours, such as your brightly coloured jacket or car, but the chances are that this object is reflecting light in a way that is attractive to these insects. We used this research in the development of the Evolution Fly Sheet by choosing colours containing no UV pigments that are known to be difficult for inspects to identify. The pattern we use breaks up the shape of the horse, so insects struggle to identify it as a target and can’t figure out where to land, essentially camouflaging the horse against a wide range of pesky flies and bugs. Treated Treated with our Vamoose® insect control technology. Fabric The knitted polyester net body is soft, absorbent and strong with sun reflecting properties. The upper lightweight polyester layer on the top and sides of the rug is treated with our Vamoose® technology. VAMOOSE® TECHNOLOGY Features Supersized tail flap with silky lining; Disc front closure; Leg arches; Shoulder and mane lining; Belly flap with velcro closures for full belly coverage; Three straight surcingles; Integrated neck cover and fillet string. Colours Insects respond differently to different colours. Interestingly, most insects cannot perceive the colour orange or aqua, because their vision centres on different sections of the electromagnetic spectrum. This is a natural deterrent in itself. Our colour technology, paired with our Vamoose technology is at the forefront of equine repellent technology. In addition to both of these features we have combined our first Vamoose front closure system (35grm) to create a super lightweight, high tech product.
Horse Rug Size Guide:
The fit of your rug is extremely important to ensure the comfort of your horse and to prevent rubbing and rug slippage. As horses of the same height at the wither come in a variety of shapes and sizes, it is useful to take certain measurements of your horse.
Using a soft measuring tape, measure from (A) at the center point of the chest, across the point of the shoulder and to the point (B) at the center of the tail. When you have the measurement, remove 10cm (4inches) and choose your horse’s size from the size guide table. Bear in mind that every horse is different and that this table is a guide only.
Horseware® rugs come in a variety of weights. To make it easy, we’ve created this little temperature scale. It explains the weight available for each rug and is located under each product section.
A turnout rug acts as a waterproof insulator layer, helping to maintain condition in cold weather. However be aware that conditions may vary in a short time span. Always ensure your horse is comfortable at all times.
What rug suits my horse?
For a deep shouldered horse with a deep neck and wide build you would need the XL cut, which is 20% deeper in the neck and sides to give them room, or you could choose the Optimo style rugs which have the ultimate freedom of movement.
For a deep shouldered, narrow horse you would be advised to have a Surefit design with V-Front closure.
For an average build of horse, go with a classic neck cut or if you prefer to give them more comfort again, a V-Front fit would suit.
For high withered narrow horses a Wug® helps to reduce the wither pressure. For very narrow or young horses the Wug® or All-In-One design rugs are good choices to help fit their shape and prevent the rugs from slipping.
